Getting Ready for the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Program @ Tomaree
Many schools in NSW Education now have BYOD Programs. These programs help us to supplement paper-based learning and ensure our students develop skills that will help them to be successful in future workplace environments. The following information will help you to prepare for learning through our BYOD Program.
Devices
While we recommend laptop devices, we know that some households already have tablet devices and may wish to use those as learning devices at school. Below is some information to help guide preparation of learning devices for students at Tomaree High School.
Windows or Apple Devices
- Any laptop under $700 will be sufficient for most of the work students will do on their devices
- Usually between 11” and 14” a is the best size for back packs
- No Chromebooks due to some technical issues in the NSW Department of Education WiFi network
- A laptop case for keeping the device as safe as possible
- You can find devices at:
- Harvey Norman
- JB HiFi (School Code = Coming soon)
Tablet Devices
- iPads over 9”
- Bluetooth keyboards
- We do not recommend Android tablets
Loan Devices
We do not want students to miss out on learning through devices. Day and Long term loan laptops are available for students who are unable to bring a learning device, or need a short term loan of a device. Contact your Deputy Principal to discuss.
Antivirus Software
Antivirus as the Windows 10 Defender and Apple integrated antivirus software will be sufficient. The NSW Education WiFi infrastructure is filtered and as such offers an extra level of protection while using learning devices at school
