Drone Program
Learning to fly drones is a benefit students of Tomaree High see as a great advantage for their careers into the future.
Year 11 students Delaney Pratt & Johanna Aitkin are excited to be in the program and said these were skills for the future.
“Drones is a growing industry & lots of careers in the future will require this sort of technology. These are good, useful skills to have”, said Delaney.
Johanna agreed with Delaney & is looking to use her new skills to start a career in agriculture.
“I want to go into the agriculture industry, working on sheep farms in the Riverina area”, she said.
Students, Talon Pepper & Jack Stagg said they enrolled in the program because it sounded fun & exciting, as well as providing new age technology skills & a qualification to use when looking for careers after school.
Trainer, Kyle Evans from UAVAIR said the 16 students will complete the one year program with a CIII in Aviation in Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems.
He agreed with the students in seeing this technology as an important skill for careers in the future.
“We are seeing this technology being used in many areas now including agriculture, where it is used for agriculture management & crop spraying”, Kyle said.
“Farms can identify areas of crops maybe lacking in water or requiring pest management. It provides a much more cost effective alternative to helicopters & pilots.
We are seeing drones used in the environment to do such things as monitor the flow of plastics onto Australian beaches, as well as shark management for the safety of all beach users”.
Kyle said the students really picked this technology up very quickly, & all will benefit in their careers from this program.
