A chat with Mrs Thorburn
Big Picture Education offers independent learners an alternate pathway by studying their passion, supported by dedicated educators. We sat down with one of Tomaree High School's newly appointed Big Picture educators to learn a little more about her role and Big Picture Learning.
What do you love about being a Big Picture advisor?
The Big Picture Educational Design is relatively new to me and I feel very fortunate to have this opportunity to be an advisory teacher at Tomaree High School. I love learning about the students’ interests, guiding them in their learning, identifying opportunities for learning outside of the school and building positive relationships with them.
How do Big Picture students inspire you?
Their love of learning is genuinely refreshing to me. They are curious to learn and to help others to succeed in their learning too.
What are some of the things you are currently working on with your students?
The diversity of the projects that the students are undertaking is truly remarkable.
Projects include:
Directing Stage Shows (which is a little hobby of mine too!), Stop-Motion Animation, Art History, Sustainable Housing, Robotics/Social Experiment and Guitar Making. WOW!
Do you have a favourite spot in the school?
Of course, my favourite spot in the school is in the Big Picture classroom which is a fantastic space for Big Picture Learning.
